How to verify helpdesk and AI software claims

Short answer: Compare the same plan, billing interval, channel scope, and AI usage allowance; then verify feature availability with official documentation and test the actual workflow. A feature marked “Yes” in a comparison is not proof that it is included in the lowest paid tier.

1. Compare equivalent costs rather than headline prices

A $19 per-agent support plan and a $55 per-agent suite plan may include different channels, routing, knowledge tools, or reporting. Treat their starting prices as entry signals rather than a total-cost comparison. Confirm billing cadence, minimum seats, the number of brands, messaging channels, add-ons, AI usage, and any enterprise minimums.

Primary pricing sources: Freshdesk pricing, Zendesk pricing, Jira Service Management pricing.

2. Separate AI assistance from AI autonomy

An agent-facing suggestion, an automated answer, and an action-taking agent pose different risks. Ask whether the feature summarizes tickets, drafts replies, answers knowledge questions, or actually updates records and triggers workflows. Check which tools are available by plan and where human authorization is required.

ClaimEvidence to requestWhat can go wrong
AI self-servicePublished docs, plan entitlements, demo on your knowledge baseDeflection may count clicks instead of resolved cases
Human approvalSpecific approval gates for sensitive actionsApproval may exist only for some workflows
Audit loggingExample events, retention and export optionsLogs may not include a full AI decision trace
Multilingual AILanguage coverage per workflow and evaluation setLanguage support may vary by channel or feature

3. Test support channels and integrations end to end

Confirm whether email, web forms, chat, WhatsApp, social messaging, voice, and in-app support are native, require an upgraded omnichannel product, or need third-party apps. Also check API rate limits, webhook reliability, app permissions, SSO, and identity management for the intended plan.

4. Demand measurable AI outcomes

Compare contact resolution, escalation rates, customer satisfaction, reopened cases, correct citations to knowledge base articles, and the cost per resolved case. “Deflection” and “resolution” are not interchangeable. Run a representative test set from your own support traffic instead of relying only on vendor examples.

5. Test migration before committing

Inventory tickets, conversations, users, custom fields, internal notes, attachments, knowledge bases, and historical reporting requirements. Validate data mappings in a trial migration, inspect a sample of records, and plan cutover and incremental sync. A product with better AI features may still have higher switching costs if its data structure differs from your current helpdesk.

6. Check the source and its date

Prefer vendor pricing pages for prices and vendor documentation for product capabilities. Review dates on the original source; a product marketing page may describe a feature that is in beta, region-limited, or restricted to enterprise plans. HelpDesk Picker research dates reflect when a claim was last reviewed, not a guarantee of current accuracy.
